Wellness Wednesday: 5 Simple Juice Recipes

As some of you may or may not know, I started my juicing journey a few years ago.  It completely changed my life both physically and mentally!  I went from a girl who couldn't stand any kind of veggies, to a girl who can't go a day without getting her greens.  My green drinks make me feel good and you know what they say… “When you feel good, you look good!”

Juicing can be intimidating so for today’s #WellnessWednesday I wanted to share 5 of my favorite, easy, go-to recipes!
Remember that these recipes are for making fresh juice with a JUICER and NOT A BLENDER!  If you’re more interested in a smoothie rather than a juice, you will need to downsize the recipes.  With that being said, I encourage you to try and start implementing fresh juice into your daily diet.  When I’m juicing consistently, I notice such a huge difference.  I feel lighter and healtheir, my skin is brighter, and it prevents me from getting sick because of all the nutrients.

So without further ado, here are your 5 easy recipes!

Orange Power
3 Gala Apples
6 Whole Carrots
½ Inch of Ginger Root
1 Lemon
Wellness Booster
3 Oranges
2 Gala Apples
1 Lemon
½ Inch of Ginger Root

Kale Aid
6 Kale Leaves
3 Green Apples

Best Apps That Assist With Weight Loss

"Keep Your Goals In Front Of You"
In order to accomplish any goal, it's vital that we constantly remind ourselves why we started in the first place, especially when trying to lose weight.  It's no surprise that losing weight can be difficult.  We can become tempted, tired, or hit a plateu at any given moment.

In most cases, we are on our cell phones 24/7 whether it be texting, emailing, surfing the web etc.  What we are constantly looking at and listening to affects us more than we can possibly imagine!  It becomes a part of who we are, it starts to define us.  This is why I think it is so important to keep a few apps on your phone that can not only assist you in your weight loss journey, but apps that will also keep you on track and motivated.

1.  My Fitness Pal- Free

This app is both iPhone & Android friendly.  This is one of the most useful apps you can use! From the beginning it takes your weight, height, goal weight, and lifestyle and then gives you recommendations.  This app completely takes the "guessing game" out of eating and eating out.  Not to mention.. its VERY simple to use.  You can scan the barcode on all the food items you eat throughout the day instead of having to enter and search for what you are eating.  It also has a plethora of restaurant menu items making it easy to track what you are eating when dining out (it even  has local restaurants!) My fitness pal also tracks carbs, fats, sodium & cholesterol so you are aware of exactly what you are putting into your body.  There is so much more that this app does.. I could go on and on, however if there is one app that you decide to download, it should definitely be this one.

2.  Map My Walk/ Map My Run- Free

These two apps track just about everything when it comes to walking and running.  They track route, pace, calories burned and distance.  It's simple to use and has several tools to keep you motivated throughout your workout.  Map My Run and Map My Walk feature voice prompts that give you updates throughout your workout but don't worry, the voice comes on in the background so you can still listen to your favorite workout playlist!

3.  My Model- Free

This is just a fun app.  You enter in your height, weight, goal weight, skin tone, face, hair, body shape and outfit. This app creates an image of what you look like now, and what you will look like when you reach your goal weight.  It also give you the option to track your weight loss so it will show model like figures as you get closer and closer to reaching your goal!  Like I said earlier, keeping your goals in front of you is powerful!

4.  7 Minute Fitness- Free

The challenge is to do 7 minutes a day for 7 months. This app gives you 7 minute workouts that require zero workout equipment.  Sounds easy right?  This app was designed to provide the maximum benefit of working out regularly in the shortest time possible.  The workouts include a variety of cardio, fat burning, strengthening, and stretching routines.  You can also upgrade later on to an app that costs a few dollars and provides more workouts but it's not nessecary.

5.  Juicing- Free

I like this app because it's free and offers thousands of juice recipes.  You can hit one button 'Add Ingredients To Cart' and it provides you with a grocery list.  It also shows the calories in each recipe and offers anywhere from a 1 day cleanse to a 30 day cleanse.  You can set reminders on this app and it will notify you of when you need to drink your next juice!

6.  Bible Encouragement- Free

Love this app! It provides encouraging Bible verses to accommodate you through the roller coaster ride of weight loss.  It's easy to use and it's so satisfying to tell God exactly how you are feeling.  There are over 35 different emotions to chose from, all of which provide Bible verses and a quote that correlate with what you are feeling.

 7.  Daily Fitness Motivation

This app shows motivational images and allows you to set reminders with motivational affirmations and images.  The affirmations and quotes will always put you in a positive mindset!

8.  Songza -Free
Have you ever gone to a workout, spin class, yoga, or aerobics class and LOVED the music?  This is the only place I have been able to find similar pump up playlists and the REAL artists are singing (not a knock off version of a song, a lot of the remixes online sound like kids bop) You can choose playlists based on your activity or your mood.  My favorite playlists are Massive Pop Hits: The Remixes and 00s Club Bangers ;)

I hope you enjoy some of, if not all of these apps! I use most of them daily and I absolutely love them.  Don't lose sight of your vision and your goals.  Set those daily reminders to trigger your motivation and most importantly, remember why you started! Weight loss is a journey and all you can do is take it one step at a time :) You can do it!

17 Benefits of Juicing

17 Benefits of Juicing

Hello Everyone! As we approach a new month I thought I would share some of the most important benefits of juicing.  I am coming up on my one year anniversary of being an avid juicer (Yay!)  So… why not share some of what I’ve learned this past year!  The holidays will soon be upon us and it’s no lie that set backs are defeating… so beat them! This Wednesday (October 1st) is the perfect opportunity to start fresh and head into the holiday season with confidence that you will start your new year without feeling like you need to start over.  Who says that January 1st has to be the only day we make resolutions?! The truth is.. it doesn't! We only have 3 months left of 2014, lets make them count! End 2014 with a bang!

  1. Raw juices help remove chemicals that we store in our bodies.
  2. It helps cleanse out bacteria.
  3. Cleanses your blood.
  4. Juicing gives your digestive system a break & lord knows we can all use one of those!
  5. It allows you to add a wider variety of vegetables in your diet. You would not sit down and eat two apples, 1 cucumber, 3 celery stalks, and inch of ginger, a lemon, and 2 cups of kale.
  6. Juicing not only promotes but it also jump starts weight loss. Juicing rids your body of excess weight. It can provide a way to reach a dramatic weight loss goal.
  7. Increases energy.  When you start to add rich nutrients into your body you wont feel so tired and sluggish.
  8. Helps boost your immune system.
  9. It can help you ease into a healthier lifestyle.
  10. Our bodies require a certain amount of nutrients from fruits and vegetables.  Juicing not only provides us a way to get those vegetables down but the juice is immediately absorbed into our blood stream making those nutrients we are consuming, more efficient.
  11. Can assist in helping you de-bloat naturally.
  12. Curbs appetite.  Yep, you heard me! All of the nutrients that are filled in one glass of juice make you feel full!
  13. Juicing is great for your skin, hair, and nails.
  14. Mental alertness and happiness.  Juicing improves blood circulation therefore it transports oxygen into the brain and body keeping you from hitting that 3 o'clock feeling.
  15. Full of antioxidants!
  16.  Keeps your cells hydrated.  Juicing replenishes nutrient rich fluid back into our bodies.
  17. Juicing truly is a Fat Flusher.

Green Drinks are Not For Me!

If you are the kind of person who looks at a green drink and thinks to yourself that you would never be “into that” I highly recommend just TRYING it out.  I personally hate vegetables.  I wish that wasn’t the case, but unfortunately it is.  There is something so magical about being able to blend up broccoli, spinach, kale, celery, cucumber etc. toss in some apples, oranges, strawberries and have them mask the nasty taste of the green! Juicing is all about finding the right combinations of different fruits and vegetables that work for you!

Simple One Day Revitalizing Cleanse

"Motivate the mind; the body will follow"
Happy Monday Everyone!  With August coming to an end, I thought I would share my Simple One Day Revitalizing Cleanse because it has been my saving grace with all the traveling I have done this summer.
When your energy is low, your stressed out, your anxiety levels are high, your unhappy with how you look which in return affects how you feel.... Your body is SCREAMING FOR A CLEANSE!

Cleansing can be intimidating.  The idea of not eating solid foods for days is frightening, I know.  Some people may even think it's stupid...  some may think all of this trendy juicing is just another fad.  While it is in fact "trendy" right now, juicing has been around for ages.  There are a lot of people who have been avid juicers for a very long time.  The thing is, the way food is designed in today's society (processed, chemically designed to last for years, loaded with sugar and salt... the list goes on and on.) We NEED to "clean out our pipes" from time to time and rid our bodies of all the harmful chemicals we feed it on a daily basis.

Cleansing is important because it purifies the body and the mind.  Think of a cleanse as a mini retreat.  It gives you the opportunity to step back and take a look at the things you're consuming because so much of what we put into our bodies, weighs us down.  Cleansing, fortunately can set us free from all of that!  What you eat, affects every single aspect of your life.

So now, you may be wondering how to even get started.  It's important to be prepared when you are about to start a cleanse.  Here is a list of things to do before jumping into a cleanse:
  1. Make a list of your favorite recipes that you will use.
  2. Make a shopping list and purchase all the necessary fruits and veggies you will need. (I recommend going to the Farmers Market so you are not tempted by other foods at the grocery store)
  3. Ask a friend to join you.  I recently did a 3 day cleanse with two of my friends.  We all live in different cities but we would text each other throughout the day in a group message just to check in and see how we were all doing.  We would also send each other pictures of the juices we were drinking and share recipes.
  4. Let your family know.  If you have a spouse or live with other people, let them know that you are getting ready to do a cleanse.  It's important for them to support you.  The last thing you need is your husband going to town on a cheeseburger while your sitting in the same room sipping on a juice.
  5. Write down a list of 5 reasons you need to do a cleanse and keep it with you.  It's important to maintain a positive attitude.  In moments of weakness it's easy to give up and give in but if you stay strong, you will feel so empowered!

The Simple One Day Revitalizing Cleanse was designed for when I  have too much of a good thing over the weekend.  Whenever I would come back from a trip, even if I tried to eat healthy, I would always feel bloated and out of shape upon returning.  Sometimes you just throw your hands up and say to yourself, "Enough!"  This cleanse is about devoting 24 hours to your health.  It gives you the chance to start over and clean everything out.  This cleanse can be used to ease yourself into another (longer) cleanse, or you can use it as a weekly routine maintenance, which is what I do.  Just think of how we take our cars for oil changes... we need to take care of our bodies the same way!

With all that being said... Drum Roll Please! I now give you the step by step instructions for the

Simple One Day Revitalizing Cleanse.
  • Upon waking:  Sip on some Lemon Ginger water or just Lemon Water
  • Breakfast:  20oz Green Juice (de-bloat recipe)
  • One hour after to breakfast:  1 Cup of Detox Tea
  • Snack:  8oz Green Juice with 12 almonds (de-bloat recipe)
  • Lunch:  20oz Beet Juice (digestion recipe)
  • One hour after lunch:  1 large glass of lemon water
  • Snack:  1 Banana or 1 Avocado
  • Dinner:  Either 1 fresh veggie juice or 1 fresh all natural soup.  You can make homemade veggie soups with your juicer.  (weight-loss recipe)
  • Post Dinner:  1 Cup of Detox Tea
  • Take a Detox Bath

To enhance your cleanse, make sure you get a good nights rest the night before you start and the night of.  Sweating will also assist getting those toxins out of your body.  If you can, you should squeeze in the time to either go to a hot yoga class or sit in a sauna.

Well, there you have it! I hope you enjoy this simple cleanse and that you take some time for YOU!  If you need recipes for anything mentioned in the list above, keep scrolling down! I have recipes for everything you will need!

15 Ways to Use the Leftover Pulp from your Juicer!

If you are anything like me, one of the not so great parts about juicing is feeling like you waste so much. (and after spending a fortune on fresh produce this thought can be very aggravating... I know) Well, here are a few ways you can use all of the pulp from your juicer!

1.  Freeze it and save it for later use! It may lose some of the nutrient value by sticking it in the freezer however, you will still have a significant amount of fiber left in pulp!  (Place fruit and Veggie pulp in separate containers)

2.  Fruit pulp can be used to add a little kick to your smoothies, muffins, bread, cookies, bread, granola bars, pie or cobblers. You can blend it up or cook it!

3.  Meat Loaf:  Add some fresh vegetable pulp to your meat loaf to make for a healthier and more delicious meal! (Use ground turkey to make it even more healthy)

4.  Omelets:  Add some veggies to your eggs with fresh vegetable pulp... so good!

5.  Soups:  Try making a vegetable soup with fresh juice and add some pulp for flavor and texture

6.  Lasagna:  There are some REALLY good spaghetti squash recipes out there, add some fresh veggie pulp for even more flavor with a healthy lasagna!

7.  Put it back into your garden:  If you have a garden you can use pulp as fertilizer or maybe you don't want to cook with the extra pulp,  just throw it anywhere in your backyard and let the earth do it's thing with it.  Might as well not waste it!

8.  Bulk your burgers up with some vegetable pulp.

9.  For those with young kids:  You can sneak some of pulp into some everyday food.  For example, take some traditional Mac&Cheese and add some spinach, tomato, or kale pulp into their food and BAM, kids are gettin' more veggies!

10.  DIY Salad Dressings:  With some fresh pulp, a little olive oil, and some vinegar you have your own homemade (and healthy) dressing!

11.  Hummus:  Ok, I have had an obsession with hummus lately.  I just recently made my own and added in some fresh vegetable pulp and it was SO GOOD! A must try!

12.  "Tea":  Add some fruit pulp to some hot water, add a pinch of cinnamon, let it set and then run thru a strainer.

13.  Pancakes:  Add some flavor and moister to some oatmeal pancakes!

14.  You can use leftover pulp to make some homemade scrubs and face masks

15.  You can dehydrate the pulp and make crackers with it.

This weekend I made muffins with my leftover pulp.  Here is the recipe for

Orange Nut Muffins
2 cups of gluten free flour
3 tablespoons of honey
3 teaspoons of baking powder
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1 cup of fresh juiced orange juice
3 tablespoons of coconut oil
3 tablespoons of orange pulp
2 egg whites
1/4 cup of chopped nuts (pecan, macadamia, or walnuts)
Preheat oven to 400.  Mix everything together and then bake for 15-18 minutes at 400!

Peel Oranges

Juice Oranges

Save the pulp

Put your gluten free flour in a bowl

Add Honey
 Add baking soda
 Add  Fresh OJ
 Then your coconut oil
 Two egg whites
I crack my egg whites in a separate bowl
 Add em' in
Chop up whatever nuts you decided to use and add them in!
Stir Everything together until there are little to no clumps

Bake for 15-18 minutes on 400 and then these babies are done!

I also made some "Carrot Cake" muffins with fresh pulp that were TO DIE FOR!

Carrot Cake Muffins

3 cups of gluten free flour
1 tablespoon of baking soda
3 1/2 cups of carrot pulp
1 cup of pineapple pulp
1 cup of honey
4 tablespoons of cinnamon
1 teaspoon of nutmeg
6 egg whites
1 cup of coconut oil
1 1/2 cups of chopped walnuts

preheat oven to 350.  Mix all ingredients together.  Bake for 45 minutes!

Enjoy!!!
